A decade ago they were toddlers, sitting in their crying mothers’ laps. Or elementary-school students, watching in fear as worry filled their teachers’ faces.
They might not have understood what happened on that horrible fall day in 2001. But they do now.
Our children were so young when the towers collapsed, the Pentagon burned and an airplane fell from the sky. They knew we were heartbroken, but didn’t fully comprehend why. They saw the startling images on the news, but couldn’t grasp the entirety of the horror.
