The Final Exam!
TODAY WAS AMAZING! I just want to say to everyone that participated! You are all amazing! Just an outstanding job. I am so glad we are extending it until tommorrow. This will give everyone the chance to speak, present information, and give opinions and ideas. Tommorrow I will be focusing more on ideas. I will start with the presentation of facts on the topic. But will further go into detail about ideas. I want to know what people think would make a difference! I know that we can change the world! great job everybody.

Senate Indian panel to discuss racial concerns
Geronimo: The U.S. Senate Indian Affairs Committee didn't know when it scheduled a hearing on racial stereotypes that members would have such an emotionally charged name to discuss. But the use of the Apache leader's moniker as a code name for Osama bin Laden has appalled many Native Americans and drawn calls for an apology.

Bin Laden, Geronimo link angers Native Americans
Geronimo was an Apache warrior leader who fought for tribal lands against U.S. and Mexican forces in the 19th century and who, like bin Laden, evaded capture for many years. He was held as a U.S. prisoner of war from the time he was captured in 1886 until his death in 1909.

Commentary: Our children rejoice for the U.S. over death of Osama bin Laden
A decade ago they were toddlers, sitting in their crying mothers’ laps. Or elementary-school students, watching in fear as worry filled their teachers’ faces.
They might not have understood what happened on that horrible fall day in 2001. But they do now.
Our children were so young when the towers collapsed, the Pentagon burned and an airplane fell from the sky. They knew we were heartbroken, but didn’t fully comprehend why. They saw the startling images on the news, but couldn’t grasp the entirety of the horror.

Arab Americans, Muslims rejoice at death of Bin Laden
"The world is definitely a better place without the patron of all terrorists," said Imam Hassan Al-Qazwini, head of the Islamic Center of America in Dearborn, Mich., the largest mosque in a city with the highest concentration of Arab-Americans in the country. Qazwini called bin Laden "the world's most infamous thug."

Applauding Navy Seal Team 6 kill shot of Osama bin Laden
Navy Seal Team 6 in wee hours of Sunday shot and killed Osama bin Laden in a fortress-like compound. The compound was around one kilometer (half a mile) away from the Kakul Military Academy, an army-run institution for top officers and one of several military installations. It was built in 2005 at the end of a narrow dirt road with “extraordinary” security measures. The compound had 12 to 18-feet walls topped with barbed wire with two security gates and no telephone or Internet service connected to it. It raises questions over whether Pakistani security forces knew the whereabouts of the world’s most wanted man.

Now is the TIME for questioning. . .
The reports started coming in more than a month ago: Osama bin Laden was on the move, and the U.S. had its eye on him. Stressed by the turmoil sweeping his part of the world – tumult he had no roll in sparking – bin Laden was trying to bolster al Qaeda's credibility as young people Tweeted and Facebooked about a future that didn't involve him, or al Qaeda.

And then, their records came out. . .
An intelligence source told CBS News that the intelligence community is exploring information obtained during the raid on bin Laden's compound in an attempt to learn al Qaeda intentions and the identity and whereabouts of al Qaeda key players.

My Word: Immigration sinkhole
Imagine Florida's undocumented immigrants leaving the state. Fields and groves would fill with rotting produce and fruit for lack of workers to harvest them. Resorts would empty of angry vacationers as house staff would be stretched too thin to give premium service. Construction projects would get delayed because the day laborers pool would dry up. College classes would be dropped because student enrollments would fall off.

Eighteen immigrants take oath to become U.S. citizens
Daniel McCarty came to the U.S. from Canada 13 years ago as a self-described college student with "absolutely nothing." Today, he describes the life he's built here quite differently, one that now includes a home, a family and his own business.
McCarty said he owes it all to the opportunities he's found in America, which is why on Monday he expressed much gratitude after becoming a U.S. citizen during a naturalization ceremony at the Rush H. Limbaugh Sr. U.S. Courthouse in Cape Girardeau.
"It's such a privilege for me to be a part of this," said McCarty, who lives in Poplar Bluff, Mo. "The opportunities available here are incredible. I just wanted to be a part of such a great country."

OK's Anti-Immigration Proposal On The Move
An Oklahoma anti-immigration proposal is one step closer to moving to the governor’s desk but there’s still a lot of debate.
To make deadline, the Senate killed a few amendments and need to come up with a title for HB1446.
It’s written like the Arizona law that gives police more power to arrest illegal immigrants and seize property used to commit immigration-related crimes.
However, only law enforcement that are authorized by the federal government to verify citizenship, such as 287-G. The Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office is the only law enforcement agency who is federally certified to check citizenship status.

Illegal Immigrant Fatally Shot, Another Wounded in Arizona By Joshua Rhett Miller
An illegal immigrant -- one of 15 who had just crossed the border into the U.S. from Mexico -- was seriously wounded in an attack by a gang of suspected drug traffickers at a rest stop in Arizona's Pinal County early Thursday, police told FoxNews.com.
The same group may be responsible for the shooting death of another unidentified man believed to be an illegal immigrant who was later found fatally shot in the same area, a rest stop near mile post 150 and Interstate 8 near Antelope Peak, about 25 miles west of Casa Grande, Pinal County Sheriff's spokesman Tim Gaffney said.
"[The victim] said he was with 14 others from Mexico when they stopped at a rest area near Antelope Peak," Gaffney told FoxNews.com. "While resting, an unknown group of individuals walked up on them and opened fire."

Seize The Day baby! Climb a freaking tree!
This is probably the best part of my senior year! If you seniors have not recieved this take a look at it. This is a great way to not just live life, but express my creativity! Make sure all you seniors do this! This is amazing! Now you have to remeber tho. Another part of spontaneous acts, are the consequences there of! Heed my warning there ARE pros and cons to all your actions!
Complete at least 11 (that’s ELEVEN) Carpe Diem activities, choosing the prescribed number from each category. Document each activity. If it is done at school, I should see it. If you can take a picture, do it. Each activity will also need to be accompanied by a 100-word description of the event, and how the experience affected you. If you have no evidence of the experience (i.e. no ticket stub, picture, Xerox copy of a letter), then you will need to write a 200-250-word response describing your activity. All documentation and writing will need to be kept in a Carpe Diem Journal*, which will be turned in for a total grade at the end of the three weeks. Your journal can be hand-made or purchased, but all information must be secured and self-contained.
The points you earn will be dependent upon the point values of the activities you select. Your goal is for your points to add up to 100 so choose some things from the bottom three categories. I will award up to 25 points extra credit for completing more than the minimum 11 activities required. Extra credit should be included with your journal also.
NOW, GO BOLDLY FORTH TO CELEBRATE THE ESSENCE OF LIFE, OF LIVING, OF BEING!! LIVE NOW, BEFORE THE “REAL WORLD” GETS A HOLD OF YOU!!
Make a special dinner for your beloved or friends, and eat it by candlelight. Paint a picture to music (watercolors are fine). Write a poem with a Carpe Diem theme (at least 14 substantial lines). Write a long letter to someone you’ve needed to write to for a long time (Xerox). Make an old-fashioned picnic lunch and eat it outdoors – anywhere. Go to the beach by yourself and spend an hour thinking about life and then write down your reflections. Spend an hour reading poetry to your beloved. Re-read an old book you’ve loved, and write about the experience and the new discoveries you made. Rent a rated “G” movie (The Emperor’s New Groove, Mulan, and The Road to Eldorado are my personal favorites-very amusing) and watch it with friends. Rent an old “classic” movie (My Fair Lady, Camelot, Singin’ in the Rain, and Brigadoon-my favorites) and watch it. Listen to an hour’s worth of music that you’ve never intently listened to before. Start a journal and write in it at least every other day (no other entry needed for this activity). Start a “quote” journal and write down at least 15 inspiring thoughts. Read Winnie the Pooh, Anne of Green Gables, or The Little Prince for the first time. Go to a classical or jazz music concert, a musical, or a play. Go on a date where only talking and (a little!) kissing are allowed, and see if there’s any relationship left. Get up one morning early enough to see the sunrise-record in a “Showing” paragraph or poem. Go to the skating rink one evening and have a ball. Paint a T-shirt and wear your “creation” to school. Make a collage of things that make you happy. Believe in yourself for one day and write about the experience.
Take a roll of pictures of things that make you happy (not just your friends, please) and develop them. Make a list of your 10 favorite words and tell why you like them. Press flowers. Give up something for two weeks. Do something nice for someone you usually don’t think about. Send and anonymous love note to someone (Xerox). Play in the mud or the rain. Buy crayons and a coloring book and color at least 2 pictures (no going outside the lines!). Eat at an ethnic restaurant whose country’s food you’ve never tried before (menu). Wear a garland of flowers to school for a whole day. Memorize a poem and recite it to the class. Wear something to school that you wouldn’t ordinarily wear because of fear of other’s opinions (Who really cares, anyway? Be an individual for once!). Check out 4 Dr. Seuss books and re-read or read for the first time. Plant flowers—anywhere! Light candles, put on some jazz or classical music, and take a bubble bath. Read poetry before going to bed. Go to the beach at night and fly a kite or take a run down the shore until you can’t run anymore. Get some friends and go to a drive-in movie (oh, you have to watch the movie!).
Get some friends and spend the evening playing some games like Monopoly, Scrabble, Pictionary, or Scattegories.
Buy yourself some flowers and have them delivered to the school so everyone can see them. Spontaneously hug someone you ordinarily wouldn’t. Dance in the parking lot. Wear your hair in a totally new way all day. Watch an hour’s worth of I Love Lucy, I Dream of Jeannie, or Bewitched. Get into a food fight. Write a note of appreciation to someone (Xerox). Play Red Rover, Hide and Go Seek, Freeze Tag, or some other game you liked when you were a kid. Have a Silly String Fight. Play with Play Doh—creations must be exhibited! Analyze your dreams for a night. Bake something other than cookies from scratch (sample needed). Go to a party and drink only Kool-Aid for an entire evening—and get high on life for a change.
Take either your mother or father out to dinner at short notice--McDonald’s is fine, but you have to pay (5 pts). Skip down the middle of the Mall – All the way down. Do it with a friend, it’ll be easier (5 pts). Burst into song in the middle of the quad; make sure enough people hear you that you look somewhat weird--which is, of course, the fun of it (5 pts). Give money to someone in need when they ask you for it (5 pts). Get into a conversation with him/her about his/her life, in addition to giving money (5 pts). Dye your hair a different color for one day (5 pts).
Write poetry in the bathtub (7 pts). Write a piece of music and play it for the class (10 pts). Develop a new art form (5-10 pts depending on the art form). Stay up until 2:00 a.m. writing and thinking about life (7 pts). Write a hymn to nature (7-10 pts depending on the hymn). Conceive an invention and commit it to paper (10 pts). Write a short story (10 pts).
Sponsor a child through an organization dedicated to helping disadvantaged children (10 pts). Adopt a “cause” and tell 5 people that they need to be concerned about it also (5-10 pts depending on the “cause”). Dance in the sun or rain when no one is looking and write about the experience (5 pts). Get good and depressed about the tragedy of life for at least 15 minutes, and then decide to do something about the tragedy (5-10 pts depending on what you decide to do). Write a love poem to someone and send it anonymously (5 pts). Get in a passionate argument with someone over a significant social or political issue (5 pts). Decide to become a missionary (5 pts).
